Is it education or a capitalist plot?

I decided to take down this blog entry as it was causing me too much grief in my personal life.

As Maxwell Smart would say - sorry about that chief.

  1. An interesting take on an education system gone awry; but we still have to ask why it is that other countries clamor to send their kids here to go to school. Why did my brother decide to have his daughters go to High School and University here in the US, rather than in Japan? All of us know, and parents know more so than people like me with no kids, that the education system is NOT what it was when we were in school . . . and it certainly is not what it was when our parents went to school. Whether the latter is a good or bad thing is a toss up in my mind; that the former is a bad thing at best is a given. All one has to do is look at the quality of students entering industry (where I "teach") or the university (where I "competed" with them) and one knows the system has failed at least two generations, maybe more.

So, what is the solution? I cannot even begin to guess. But some form of required indentured servitude after completing whatever education they choose to complete might be appropriate. Some years spent working as a DELTA might convince some of them to straighen up and learn something.
